01 / CONTEXT

The problem

Flight booking is fundamentally a comparison and decision-making problem. Users need to compare price, timing, duration, stops, baggage, seats and fare rules without getting overwhelmed.

02 / TENSION

The challenge

What deserves attention first — and what can wait? The experience needed to preserve useful detail without presenting every variable at once.

I wasn't just designing a booking flow. I was designing the decision around the flight.

03 / PROCESS

The approach

DESIGN FOCUS — THE WORKFLOW BELOW SHOWS THE INTENDED PATH THROUGH THE PRODUCT.

  1. 01Search
  2. 02Compare
  3. 03Explore fare
  4. 04Choose
  5. 05Book
  • Progressive disclosure
  • Fare transparency
  • Price confidence
  • Information hierarchy
  • Decision support

04 / RATIONALE

Key decisions

DECISION 01

Lead with comparable details

Why it mattered
Price alone does not determine the right flight.
Design response
Give timing, duration and stops a stable hierarchy beside price.

DECISION 02

Reveal fare rules progressively

Why it mattered
Dense policy information can interrupt comparison.
Design response
Keep essential differences visible and reveal the full detail at the point of consideration.

DECISION 03

Keep the decision in context

Why it mattered
Moving between disconnected views increases memory load.
Design response
Preserve the selected flight context while users explore fares and inclusions.

05 / EXPERIENCE

The experience

KEY CONSIDERATION — VISUALS ARE CONCEPTUAL PLACEHOLDERS, NOT ORIGINAL PROJECT SCREENS.

06 / OUTCOME

Opportunity

OUTCOME DATA WAS NOT PROVIDED FOR THIS PROJECT.

This case study documents the design focus and intended experience without making claims about measured results, stakeholder feedback or usability findings.

07 / REFLECTION

What I would revisit today

Validate the information hierarchy across different traveller types and explore how historical price context could support decision confidence.
